The Indian Foreign Service is part of the Central Civil Services of the Government of India. The Foreign Secretary of India is the administrative head of the Indian Foreign Service. It is the body of career diplomats of India. The Indian Foreign Service (IFS) was formed in the year of 1946
The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as a common examination for recruitment to various services like the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service and Indian Police Service, as well as Group A and Group B Central Services. The notification for the examination will be is published in the month of January/February every year in the UPSC Website/Employment News/Rozgar Samachar and Gazette of India as well as in leading Newspapers.
The Civil Services Examination consist of
a. The Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Objective Type) for the
selection of candidates for the Main Examination
b. Civil Services Main Examination (Written) and
c. A Final Interview for those who pass the Main Exam
The successful candidates of preliminary examination will be required fill up the online main application form. The candidate should mention his first preferred choice of service as Indian Foregin Service IFS. Depending on the Rank in Civil Services Examination ( Marks obtained in Main + Interview) , No of vacancies and Reservation if any, candidates will be allotted the preferred services mentioned in his main application.
